It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority,. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses…Acts 1:7-8
If you’ve watched any news on television over the past few weeks, you’ve probably heard about the Casey Anthony trial. And you’ve probably seen clips of the various people who have testified on the witness stand. Each witness has been questioned in great detail about times and events surrounding the death of this little girl. Witnesses are very important in jury trials, because their testimony is recalled for the purpose of putting together the facts of a case in order to reveal the truth of what has happened. What a witness says could mean the difference between life and death for the defendant. When we become Christians, we are called by Jesus to bear witness to Him. He asks us to go before others to reveal who Jesus is and what He has done and is doing for people, so that they will come to know the truth about God. This Summer we have opportunities to do this very thing, to be witnesses to the loving truth about our Lord. We are invited to assist Habitat for Humanity and the Ronald McDonald House. You will be hearing more about the dates/times in the coming days. The Session and I encourage you as members of Friendship Community Church, to make time this Summer to be Jesus’ witnesses together through these mission endeavors. These are going to be superb opportunities for us as a congregation to bear witness to the love of Jesus among us and out in the community for those who are in need. As a church, let us fulfill Jesus’ call to be His witnesses, so that others will learn about the living presence of Jesus in their lives, and respond to Him with their hearts!
